'Beyond Form' presents works by sixteen leading international artists who push the limits of abstraction, shown alongside unique contemporary design pieces by Rooshad Shroff.

In 2025, we are immersed in a visual culture heavily dominated by figurative imagery. This exhibition, titled Beyond Form, intentionally moves away from this saturation, spotlighting artists who engage primarily with abstraction or are pushing figuration to its outermost bounds. Beyond Form aims to reveal alternative visual languages and sensibilities, creating a space where the formal qualities, such as colour, spatial relationships, shape, and materiality, are prioritised above any fixed narrative. For some of the artists suggested for the exhibition, going “beyond form” means breaking the very structure of the canvas, challenging its physical limitations. For others, it occurs within the composition itself, by moving away from representation and allowing form to emerge freely. Some works sit right on the edge of figuration, where we can almost identify a figure, but not quite, prompting us to question what we’re really seeing.

Unlike figuration, which often anchors meaning in the physical world, abstraction allows for a more open-ended, introspective mode of expression, and one that leans toward the ineffable and the transcendent. For many of the artists included, abstraction becomes a means of accessing inner states of consciousness, offering viewers a space to explore the intangible realms of human experience and how we perceive the world around us. Some artists frequently use unconventional methods and unique approaches to gesture, movement, and surface, expanding the definition of how art is made. In Beyond Form we highlight how material is not merely what something is made of, but what gives it depth, essence, and power.
